“Contagion” has successfully knocking down “The Help” from box office’s No. 1 spot.
According to Box Office Mojo, the Steven Soderbergh’s virus outbreak thriller pulled in $23.1 million in its opening weekend at the box office.
Apparently, those earning numbers were enough to topple three-time champ, “The Help,” and therefore securing its spot as the new king at the weekend box office.
The movie, which stars Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law, focuses on a team of doctors trying to stop the outbreak of a deadly disease.
Former champ “The Help,” starring Emma Stone, fell to second place with an additional $8.7 million (for a total of $137 million after five weeks).
Meanwhile, the mixed martial arts drama “Warrior” came in third, with a lower-than expected weekend opening of $5.5 million.

Here’s a complete list of the weekend’s top movies, Friday-Sunday:
1. Contagion, $23.1 million
