Kal Penn Joins “How I Met Your Mother”

Kal Penn is leaving the White House and heading to “How I Met Your. Mother.”
A rep for the show had confirmed that Penn has signed on for a recurring role on the sitcom, which will be his first TV role since leaving the White House.
The 34-year-old actor will play a new love interest for Robin (Cobie Smulders) named Kevin. And by joining HIMYM, Penn is reunited with his “Harold & Kumar” co-star, Neil Patrick Harris.
Penn was previously one of the cast of “House,” but left the series to join the Obama administration shortly after the President was elected in 2009.
His character on the medical drama would later committed suicide in Season 5. A few months ago, Penn announced that he will leave his post, as associate director in the office ofpublic liaison, by the end of the month.
He recently finished shooting the third Harold & Kumar film, entitled “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas,” set to hit theaters this November.
Season 7 of How I Met Your Mother premieres on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8/7c on CBS.
