So long Lindsay Lohan, hello Malin Akerman!

Looks like we won’t see Lindsay Lohan as Linda Lovelace after all. The troubled actress was originally slated to star as the famed porn star, but on Saturday, director Matthew Wilder announced that 24-year-old Lohan had been withdrawn from the biopic’s production.

Wilder, who sang Lohan’s praises as an actress and as a promoter when she was in Cannes to help sell the film, finally moving on with another actress for the movie’s sake.

As Wilder said, “We have stuck by Lindsay very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support. Ultimately, the impossibility of insuring her—and some other issues—have made it impossible for us to go forward.” He continued, “We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan. We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her on board.”

The film’s producer, Chris Hanley, had also supported Wilder’s statement, by saying: “Lindsay had scheduling issues due to legal obligations and is continuing to focus on getting better in rehabilitation in Palm Springs, and she really had to focus on that in our opinion – and hers. For herself and her career in general it was really her decision to just focus on getting better psychologically.”

Wilder then revealed that 32-year-old Malin Akerman, who previously starred in “Couples Retreat,” “Watchmen,” and “27 Dresses,” will take on the role. “We are so honored to have Malin and know that she will kill it,” he wrote on his Facebook page. He also exclaims that they’re very excited to get the project back on track and plan to shoot in the first quarter of 2011.

Lindsay is currently undergoing court-ordered rehab treatment, under the direction of the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California. Her rep reported, “Lindsay is dedicated to her recovery and together they decided to move forward without her.” Meanwhile, Akerman is now filming “Wanderlust” with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd.
