Let’s welcome Darren Criss as a regular to the “Glee” club!

He started only as a guest star, but Darren Criss has become a one-night sensation after his appearance on Glee’s ‘Never Been Kissed’ episode. Apparently, Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” that he sang on the episode has now turned into reality.

The news was shared by “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy, who said that Criss and his character, prep school glee club member Blaine, will continue to appear on the show this season and that Criss could become a regular next year under a newly signed deal.

When being interviewed at Saturday’s 39th Gala for the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, Murphy said, “Darren has become such a sensation in one week, which I love. I think there’s a hunger for him and a positive relationship role model. He’ll definitely continue through the year and longer. We just signed a deal with him.”

23-year-old Criss was first seen as Blaine on the popular Fox series last week, portraying a gay student in an all-male high school choir, who also acted as a mentor to Kurt (Chris Colfer). Criss and the glee club at his school, known as The Warblers, performed a cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” in that episode. According to record label Columbia, which releases “Glee” soundtracks, the acapella version of “Teenage Dream” sold more than 55,000 on its release last Tuesday — the highest first-day sales for one of the show’s songs.

Criss returns on Tuesday’s episode of “Glee,” which features guest star Gwyneth Paltrow as a substitute teacher. His character was rumored to be Kurt’s boyfriend, but Murphy said he was undecided on the issue. “That I have not decided. We’re writing it. I want to see what people’s reaction to that is. Part of me thinks he should be the boyfriend, part of me thinks he should just be the mentor. I didn’t want to decide that until we got into sort of the middle of the season. We’re figuring it out now,” Murphy said.

Before “Glee,” Criss had a role in the short-lived NBC TV drama “Eastwick” last year. He also previously performed and helped to write the YouTube Harry Potter spoof “A Very Potter Musical.”

Congrats, Darren, welcome aboard!
