Sad news coming from Shannen Doherty.

A statement had been issued on Sunday on behalf of the former “Charmed” star, announced the death of her father, John Thomas Doherty, who died Friday at age 66 after a series of health issues.

Mr. Doherty had been in poor health for some time and, not long before his daughter’s appearance on “Dancing With the Stars” last season, had suffered a stroke. That’s why, the 39-year-old actress dedicated her appearance on the dancing competition show to honor her father.

And although she was eliminated from “DWTS” in March after just one week of competition, she considered her stint on the show a success because her father was in the audience, watching her perform. “I did it for my dad,” she said at the time. Calling him the “greatest man in the world,” she added in the statement: “I love him with every inch of my being and cannot imagine life without him.”
