“Gossip Girl” co-stars; Blake Lively and Penn Badgley have ended their three-year relationship, as confirmed by rep for the couple. Apparently, as Serena van der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey’s love story won’t continue, the same thing happened to their love story in real life.

Their rep did not specify when the pair broke up, but 23-year-old Lively still referred to Badgley, who turns 24 on Monday, as her boyfriend during her Oct. 1 appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

The two, who have known each other since their preteens, had been dating since December 2007, shortly after the CW series premiered. The pair initially denied their relationship and insisted they were just good friends, but finally went public in 2008, openly attending events as a couple.

Despite their split, the former couple is keeping their professional relationship in tact. Last week, Blake and Penn were spotted on the set of “Gossip Girl” shooting an intimate scene where they were seen embracing with their arms wrapped around each other. Last month, they were photographed kissing on the set of the popular series.

An insider said that the duo “kept this news to themselves for a while.” The source also added, “They’re professionals. They’re still good friends and hang out on the set. It didn’t seem like anything was off at all and no one said anything.”
