Shocking news came today from Courteney Cox and David Arquette.

The couple, who had been married for 11 years, announced Monday that they have been separated for some time but said they remain committed parents and “best friends.”

As they said in a joint statement; “We have agreed to a trial separation that dates back for some time. The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage. We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply.”

It continued, ” As we go though this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together. We are comfortable with the boundaries that we have established for each other during this separation and we hope that our friends, family, fans and the media also show us respect, dignity, understanding and love at this time as well.”

39-year-old Arquette and 46-year-old Cox met on the set of the film “Scream” in 1996 and married three years later. They have a 6-year-old daughter together, named Coco Riley. And although they are heading to Splitville right now, the actors will be seen as co-stars in the fourth installment of the Wes Craven-directed horror franchise, set to be released in April 2011.

Sad to see you guys split, Courteney and David. But we wish you both the best!
