Shocking news coming from George Lopez!

The comedian and his wife of 17-years, screenwriter Ann Serrano Lopez will end their marriage, as they said in a joint statement released by Lopez’s publicist, Ina Treciokas on Monday.

“The decision is amicable and by mutual agreement. They remain dedicated parents and committed partners in business and their philanthropic organization, The Lopez Foundation,” said the statement. No further details were available about their divorce, and court records also did not indicate the couple had filed a petition for divorce or legal separation.

Not only shocking, it’s also a sad news, especially because the couple is considered as one of Hollywood’s rare strong couples. Five years ago, the missus was famous for donating one of her kidneys to the late-night talk show host, since 49-year-old Lopez suffered from a genetic kidney disorder.

The transplant was successful, and later on, the duo founded the Ann and George Lopez Foundation, which dedicated to helping kids and adults who face health and education challenges, as well as to creating awareness about kidney disease and organ donation.

The couple, who tied the knot in 1993, have a 15-year-old daughter, Mayan. Lopez made a name for himself as a stand-up comedian and radio show host before starring in his own TV sitcom, “George Lopez,” which aired from 2002 to 2007. He currently hosts his own talk show “Lopez Tonight” on cable channel
