Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen (N/A)

Luckily for Charlie Sheen, he won’t taste life behind bars like Lindsay Lohan.

The actor pleaded guilty on Monday to assaulting his wife last Christmas. But instead sentenced to jail, he was sentenced to 30 days in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation in California.

Under a plea deal reached with prosecutors in Aspen, Sheen also agreed to three months probation in which he cannot consume any drugs, other than prescription medication, and cannot drink an excessive amount of alcohol. Furthermore, he also was ordered to attend 36 hours of anger management classes.

Pitkin County District Judge James C. Boyd sentenced Sheen to a 30-day jail term, but suspended it provided Sheen successfully completes his probation and the drug and alcohol rehab program at the exclusive Promises rehabilitation center, in Malibu, California. However, TMZ.com reported, because Sheen had already spent more than one month at the facility earlier this year, the actor would face only a “few seconds” at the center.

Sheen’s attorney Yale Galanter told reporters Sheen would be back at work on the set of “Two and a Half Men” on Tuesday. A rep from CBS also added that the network has been given no indication that Sheen, the sitcom’s star and highest-paid actor on TV, will not be on set Tuesday as scheduled.

Leaving the courthouse, the 44-year-old actor said in a statement released by rep Stan Rosenfield, “I’m very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County. I look forward to complying with the court’s decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me.”

Sheen was arrested on Christmas Day after Brooke Mueller, his third wife, told police he had pulled a knife on her and threatened to have her killed. The actor was charged with felony menacing, misdemeanor third degree assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief. In exchange for his guilty plea on the misdemeanor third degree assault, prosecutors dropped the charges of menacing and of criminal mischief. Sheen had faced up to three years behind bars if he had been convicted on all charges.

It was not his first time experience with domestic violence. In 1997, the actor was tried for attacking his girlfriend at his California home. He has also been accused of assaulting his ex-wife actress Denise Richards, a former James Bond girl. But hopefully it was the last time!
