Zac Efron had resigned. Chace Crawford had stepped down. But finally, “Footloose” remake will have a new actor to play the movie’s lead role.
Yes, after several actor changes, the remake of the 1984 classic movie musical “Footloose” has finally got its cast together.
Paramount Pictures announced Tuesday that 25-year-old Kenny Wormald had been chosen to play Ren, a rebellious teen who shakes up a small town. Wormald, pretty much an unknown dancer, will play the lead role of the remake, a role that was once made famous by Kevin Bacon.
Wormald’s previous credits include the MTV series “Dancelife.” He will co-star alongside two-time “Dancing With the Stars” champion and country music singer Julianne Hough, and also Dennis Quaid. Paramount said the planned release date for the movie was April 1, 2011.
“High School Musical” star Zac Efron and “Gossip Girl” heart-throb Chace Crawford had both been attached to the remake but later dropped out. The remake has also lost two directors in the past two years. “Hairspray” director Adam Shankman and Kenny Ortega, who directed “High School Musical,” both dropped out, leaving the movie in the hands of “Hustle & Flow” director Craig Brewer.
Welcome aboard, Kenny, good luck!
