Comedian Aziz Ansari Will Be Hosting the 2010 MTV Movie Awards
You will see a new fresh face as the host of MTV Movie Awards this year, and it is the face of comedian Aziz Ansari.
The news was announced by MTV on Monday, with the network’s general manager Stephen Friedman said viewers loved Ansari on “Human Giant,” the sketch comedy show he created, which ran on MTV for two seasons in 2007 and 2008.
Further more, Friedman called the Parks and Recreation star is the perfect host for “the movie industry’s most rebellious night on television.”
About his upcoming gig, 27-year-old Ansari said jokingly in a statement, “I’m so happy Ronnie from Jersey Shore was unavailable and this exciting opportunity was able to come my way.”
He then added, “It’s a cool job for me because it allows me to do a lot of things I enjoy doing. With the monologue, I get to use my stand-up skill, and I love making short films and stuff, and that’s another thing the host gets to do.”
Ansari has appeared at the Movie Awards before, having popped up in a Star Trek spoof with Andy Samberg last year. But now, the actor-comedian said he consulted Samberg and other former MTV Movie Awards hosts such as Sarah Silverman and Ben Stiller for advice.
The MTV Movie Awards honor the year’s best films in categories including best kiss, best fight and best global superstar. For this year, the 19th annual MTV Movie Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 6.
We’re excited to see you as the host, Aziz, good luck!
