Date Night (shockya.com)
Apparently, a collaboration between Steve Carell and Tina Fey is a bit stronger than the gods of Mount Olympus. Well, at least for this week at the top spot of box office.
Carell and Fey’s romantic comedy Date Night, earned $27.1 million during its first weekend, narrowly beat last weekend’s champion Clash of the Titans, with $26.9 million. But internationally, the movie -that features Sam Worthington as a warrior caught in a battle between men and the gods in ancient Greece- still led the score for a second weekend with sales of $54 million from 31 countries, taking its total to $119.2 million.
According to Warner Bros., the mythological epic opened at No. 1 in Russia, France and Germany. Meanwhile according 20th Century Fox, Date Night earned a modest $7.1 million in 35 markets, led by a $2 million contribution from a No. 3 opening in Australia.
Running a close No. 3 was DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon, which took in $25.4 million, lifting its 17-day total to $133.9 million.
