It has been nine months since Kal Penn left Hollywood for Washington D.C., but it looks like he’s planning to migrating back.
The actor is reportedly heading back to Tinseltown, to reprise his most famous role, as the marijuana-loving ‘Kumar’ in the Harold and Kumar feature film comedies. Entertainment Weekly first reported the news last Friday, saying that Penn was leaving to star on the third installment of Harold and Kumar movie, this one with a Christmas theme, which might be shot in 3-D.
32-year-old Penn has been working in the White House since July as an associate director of public engagement using his real name, Kalpen Modi. He got the job after previously campaigning for President Barack Obama, and therefore had to choose between the two separate worlds. The decision he took made his character on medical-mystery series, House, abruptly commit suicide last year.
Besides House, he had previously known from the first two Harold and Kumar movies; Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. No word on when Penn will leave his position, but shooting is slated to begin in June for a holiday 2011 release. The Washington Post also reported on Saturday that the White House was declining comment, saying Modi “has no announcements to make about his tenure here at this point.”
So, will Penn actually coming back as Kumar? Let’s just wait and see then…
