Dustin Hoffman is probably looking for variation, as he is now trying the silver screen field.
The two-time Oscar winner will star in his first major TV series gig in four decades, a horse-racing drama pilot called Luck. In this new project, Hoffman will be directed by Public Enemies‘ Michael Mann, with David Milch (NYPD Blue) as the scriptwriter.
The series centers around Hoffman’s character named Ace Bernstein, an intelligent, intuitive and tough man who has always been involved with gambling, from bookmaking and money laundering through casino operations.
Recently released after four years in prison, he teams with Gus Economou (Dennis Farina), his longtime chauffeur and muscle, to craft a complex plan involving the track. They recruit Turo Escalante (John Ortiz), a successful trainer with sordid reputation.
The pilot is eyeing an early spring production start in Los Angeles. Hoffman has gained his fame and credibility from many prominent roles; Tootsie, Rain Man, Kramer vs. Kramer, Meet the Parents with Ben Stiller, its sequel Meet the Fockers, and then another sequel, Little Fockers.
We’re excited to see on TV, Mr. Hoffman!
