Project Runway’s 6th Season Winner: Irina Shabayeva
Irina Shabayeva came out as the winner of Project Runway‘s 6th season last night.
I can’t believe I’m a Project Runway winner. That’s crazy. That’s insane,” said the 27-year-old.
Shabayeva gained the judges’ favor over two other finalists, the 24-year-old Althea Harper and the 24-year-old Carol Hannah Whitfield, in the clothing design competition show finale. The Republic of Georgia native who has been living in New York City since childhood remarked that she felt proud of herself. “I think this deserves a pat on the back. I did have some stiff competition,” she said.
Shabayeva impressed the judges with her thirteenth design shown at New York’s Fashion Week in February.
Sitting in the judge panel, Heidi Klum praised her edgy design. “Your line was sleek, modern, cohesive and it told a story,” said Heidi to Irina. “You knew what kind of woman you were designing for, and you really did articulate that beautifully.”
Two other regular judges, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, and the guest judge Suzy Menkes loved it too. “It seemed very coherent,” Suzy said. “There was a starting point and it was really worked around in different ways.”
As a Project Runway winner, Shabayeva won a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a trip to Paris, one year of representation from Designers Management Agency and $100,000.
Althea Harper from Dayton, SC came out as the runner-up. While Carol Hannah Whitfield from Anderson, SC stays at third place.
