Taylor Swift Wins CMA Entertainer of the Year!
We’ve said this over and over again, but it’s no problem, cos it’s true. 2009 is Taylor Swift’s year!!
The teen sensation has once again made herself proud, and definitely made her fans proud. On Wednesday, 19-year-old Swift became the youngest person and the first solo female act in a decade to win the ‘Entertainer of the Year’ award at the Country Music Awards.
The last woman who coveted the title was Shania Twain in 1999, and now Swift is making history. Besides the top honor, Swift also claimed awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Music Video of the Year for her song Love Story and Album of the Year with Fearless.
Swift cried as she accepted her highest honor and said, “I will never forget this moment because in this moment everything that I have ever wanted has just happened to me.”
With all the awards she swooped, the Our Song singer beat the biggest names in country and snapped Kenny Chesney’s stranglehold on the category. Chesney had previously won three straight and four of the last five. She also ended Carrie Underwood’s three-year dominance in the female vocalist category.
Swift’s father cried in the audience as she thanked, “Every single person in that category let me open up for them this year. Thank you all so much. I love you.”
It is also a big night for The Hootie and the Blowfish former frontman, Darius Rucker. He has sold 1 million copies of his first country album, Learn to Live, and became the second African-American to win a major individual CMA. He joins Charley Pride, who won entertainer of the year in 1971 and male vocalist in 1971-72. Rucker said in his acceptance speech, “First of all, to the fans, thank y’all for accepting me. And I think most importantly, to country radio, you took a chance on a pop singer from Charleston, S.C. Thank you so much for that!”
