Not only the movie has great success, This Is It soundtrack album also manages to sit at the top chart.
The album claimed the top spot on the U.S. pop albums chart Wednesday with the fifth-best sales week this year. It marks Michael Jackson’s sixth No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while the movie itself earned an astonishing final tally, $104 million during its first weekend of worldwide release.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, This Is It sold 373,000 copies during the week ended November 1, exceeding expectations of an opening in the 300,000 and 350,000 range. The numbers beat Jackson’s HIStory album result, which opened at No. 1 with 391,000 copies.
The late King of Pop first got his spot at the top chart with Thriller in 1983, followed by Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, and Invincible. And after his shocking death, the 2003 greatest hits set Number Ones is the biggest seller in the United States this year.
