It looks like Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy won’t be dancing down the aisle, because the couple reportedly had danced separate ways now.

The duo from Dancing With the Stars have broken up after about a year. The sad news confirmed by Smirnoff’s rep, who said, “I can confirm that this is true.” No reason was given about the split, and also no comments yet from Chmerkovskiy’s camp.

31-year-old Smirnoff and 28-year-old got engaged last December, just a few months after Smirnoff got separated from Mario Lopez, who was previously also a contestant in DWTS.

The shocking split came just a month after they debuted on Broadway in Burn the Floor. Both are a very busy couple, but they were actually planning to tie the knot in June 2010. Smirnoff once said on an interview about the plan, saying, “The only thing we’ve decided on is next year in June. We were supposed to pick the place, but we’ve never actually had the time to go further.” She continued, “We don’t feel like we’re missing out on the wedding-dress fittings. As long as we’re together, tying the knot is a plus. It’s something extra.”

The pair still have obligation to dance at the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on September 20, and apparently, reports said they will still perform together, in the name of professionalism. Although, reports also said that they have now requested separate dressing rooms. No wonder, right?
