Chris Brown Was Sentenced in Rihanna Assault Case
It is time for Chris Brown to face his punishment.
The disgraced singer was sentenced to five years’ formal probation and 180 days of community labor on Tuesday for assaulting his then-girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna. He was also ordered to complete a one-year anti-domestic violence program as part of his guilty plea.
The sentencing was moved up from this Thursday at the request of the defense. It was originally supposed to happen two weeks ago, but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg postponed the hearing after Brown’s lawyer asked that Brown be allowed to serve his community service in his home state of Virginia. It was also because Schnegg wanted to gave court officials more time to ensure that Brown’s punishment would involve physical work.
Schnegg also gave Brown another punishment, that is probably the most painful part for him. The Forever singer had to stay at least 100 yards away from Rihanna until Aug. 25, 2014. With the exception, if they are both attending an entertainment industry function, the restriction would be lowered to 10 yards.
The judge warned Brown, “I’m not immune from the chatter on the airwaves. Any violation of this protective order is a violation of your probation. Even though you have probation…this is a felony and it comes with a sentence in state prison.”
Looking back at the incident, 20-year-old Brown assaulted the Barbados beauty during an argument on February 8, as the couple on the way home from a party. They started bickering which lead to physical assault, and caused the 21-year-old Umbrella singer bloodied and bruised. Brown formally apologized last month in a video posted on YouTube, calling the incident “unacceptable, 100 percent,” and asking for forgiveness.
