David Cook is The New American Idol!
The battle of the Davids has been won by the big David. David Cook is who America chooses to be the new American Idol.
The 25-year-old guy who worked as a bartender before competing in American Idol, finally won the title, defeated 17-year-old high school student from Murray, Utah.
The two gave their best on Tuesday’s finale performance, and overall, Simon Cowell -known as the most-mean critics- praised Archuleta over Cook. David Archuleta was basically out-sang Cook’s performance that night. From all three songs he sang, each gave extra point, especially on his rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine.
But when Ryan Seacrest as the show’s host revelaed the winner, David Cook immediately fought back tears of joy, while Archuleta kept on smiling and they hugged each other.
Even Cowell himself has predicted Cook will be the winner, despite he praised Archuleta’s awesome performance the night before. Cowell said, “He’s done more to deserve it over the eleven weeks. He’s taken more risks, he’s done things with certain songs that have been more interesting”.
Simon even apologized to Cook just before Seacrest announced that he had won by 12 million votes.
“I want to congratulate both of you”, Cowell said. “It wasn’t quite so clear as we called it. In fact, David [Cook], I will take this opportunity to apologize because I think I was verging on disrespectful with you and I don’t think you deserve that”.
The finale took place on Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, in front of more than 7,000 fans. Fulfilled with awesome performances by guests star; Top 12 Contestants, Carrie Underwood, Donna Summer, Disney’s the Jonas Brothers, George Michael, and much more.
As his first performance after winning the American Idol, the guy whose hometown is Missouri sang “The Time of My Life”, a song created by Regie Hamm, the winning entry in Idol’s song writing competition, to close the amazing night.
Congratulation David Cook! Good luck on your journey as a new Idol and as an aspiring singer!
