Nas Must Pay $40,000 per Month to Kelis as Spousal Support

At a Kelis and Nas’ divorce hearing yesterday, a judge has ordered the rapper to pay his baby mama nearly $40,000 in monthly support for the near future. The decision has added the Milkshake singer’s happiness, as she was just delivered a baby boy the day before.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger had decided that Kelis, whose full name is Kelis Rogers, will receive $39,498 in spousal support per month, while the couple’s son will receive $9,027. It is very generous compared to the original $20,000 a month Kelis was asking for, and definitely bigger than the one-time payment of $20,000 proposed by Nas’ attorney, Vincent Kaplan, until both parties had reached a permanent settlement.
Beside that, Meisinger told Rogers’ attorney, Laura Wasser, that the singer has 30 days to decide whether to return to the couple’s Los Angeles home, which Nas is paying to maintain the property in the meantime. The judge also ordered the 35-year-old Hip Hop is Dead singer to pay another $45,000 for Kelis’ attorney fees and for a forensic accountant.
29-year-old Kelis filed for divorce from the rapper in late April while she was seven months pregnant. Since then, Kelis’ camp argued that Nas had not contributed the cost of her pregnancy and other costs to prepare the arrival of their son. But according to Nas’ lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, his client had already given $30,000 to the cause, as well as maintained mother and child’s health insurance.
Kelis’ publicist, Tracy Nguyen shared more details about the birth of the duo’s baby boy. Knight Jones was born at a New York hospital Wednesday evening around 9 p.m., weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces. Kelis gave birth to Knight with natural delivery. In a statement, Nguyen said, “Kelis is grateful to have given birth to a healthy baby boy. Her focus is on getting acquainted with him and enjoying her role as a new mom.” She also added, “The beautiful baby boy and his mother are doing wonderful.”
Another hearing on whether the payments should be altered is set on September 8.
