The new Melrose Place will be filled with star-studded residents, and one of them is Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

Although Ashlee is better known as a singer and little sister of Jessica Simpson, she was actually had her career started with acting.

She once appeared in an episode of the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle in 2001, and then had her big role on the family drama series 7th Heaven, from 2002-2004.

Now, 24-year-old Ashlee plans to return to TV in the new Melrose Place, as a small-town girl trying her luck in Los Angeles. The show’s network, CW, said that the character she played will display a “disarming naiveté [that] masks the calculating, shrewd sex kitten within.”

The Autobiography singer also commented in a statement about her comeback career, saying, “I’m thrilled to be joining the cast of Melrose Place and I look forward to being a part of its new generation of residents.”

A friend of the singer said that the new mom has been looking for a way to balance work and family life. As the source said, “Ashlee wanted something stable so she could be close to her baby. She was specifically looking for something in television as her next step that filmed in Los Angeles so she wouldn’t have to be away from Bronx.” the source also added, “Music is still a passion but she felt this was the best thing for her and her family at this point in her life. She’s really excited about Melrose Place.”

Simpson-Wentz, and her three-month-old son, Bronx Mowgli, are currently on tour in Europe with daddy Pete Wentz and his band Fall Out Boy. The new series starts filming in April, and hopefully it will be as entertaining as the original one. Good luck to Ashlee then!
