After Miami, Chris Brown’s next destination is: court room.

According to prosecutors, the Forever singer has a standing court date Thursday in Los Angeles, although there’s no charges against him yet. Brown might be required to personally appear at the arraignment, or not, depending on whether the District Attorney’s Office files a case against him.

The court date could also be delayed pending more review, because The DA could take more time to mull over the evidence or hand the case to the City Attorney for less serious charges.

Looking back almost a month ago, Brown was arrested February 8 after an alleged altercation with girlfriend Rihanna, in Los Angeles. The incident took just a few hours before both of them were scheduled to attend and perform at the Grammy Awards. Police booked him on a felony criminal threat charge. He was released on $50,000 bail.

On Wednesday, District Attorney’s spokeswoman Jane Robison said that Brown is required to appear based on a date scheduled. Meanwhile, several sources said that the R&B star’s attorneys are in talks with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office about a possible plea deal that would see Brown wind up with probation, rather than facing jail time.

Another source that is close to the investigation said that, after asking the Los Angeles Police Department for more evidence on Brown’s case, the D.A.’s case for felony domestic abuse, criminal threats and battery has proved rather thin. “They have a victim who’s back together with her alleged attacker, and some conflicting statements from each side. It’s not the slam dunk they hoped it would be,” said the source.

This could be a long process for Brown, and hopefully he got his lessons well from the whole incident.
