OMG! Joaquin Phoenix Quits Acting Career
Joaquin Phoenix
Prepare for a brokenheart all you Joaquin Phoenix fans!
It looks like Phoenix’s portrayal of music legend Johnny Cash in the movie Walk the Line had became a dream come true for the actor, and now, he’s making his music dream as a reality. Then, to prove his seriousness in music, Phoenix is retiring from his acting career.
The actor’s shocking decision was said at a benefit for Paul Newman’s camps for kids Monday. When interviewed by Extra television programme, 34-year-old Phoenix said, “I want to take this opportunity… also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor… I’m not doing films anymore.” The two-time Oscar nominee later asked if his statement was serious, and he added, “Yeah. I’m working on my music. I’m done. I’ve been through that.” The actor’s rep had also confirmed the retirement.
Well… that means, the movie entitled Two Lovers, which he costars with Gwyneth Paltrow will be his last film. The romantic drama directed by James Gray is planned to be released in early 2009. Joaquin was nominated for an Oscar in 2006′s biopic movie Walk the Line, where he gave his awesome performance in the role of Johnny Cash. Further back, he was also nominated in 2000 for his supporting role in Gladiator.
As for his music career, it is reported that Phoenix is currently recording an album with Tim Burgess, lead singer of the British rock/indie band The Charlatans. He wrote the songs and Anthony Langdon, former member of band Spacehog, sang them.
I guess, we’ll just wait and see if he will succeed in his music career as he already did with his acting career. Maybe he will go back to his roles in movies, or even better, be good and successful at both. Best of luck for you Joaquin!
