Brad Pitt

Donation and more donation coming from Brad Pitt. After a huge donation for Ethiopian Children he did with the mother of his child, Angelina Jolie, Pitt is once again making news with his donation act.

On Wednesday, Brad Pitt has donated $100,000 to fight California’s November ballot initiative that would overturn the state Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage. It’s the first time voters will be asked to ban gay marriage in a state where gay couples already have won the right to wed. Same-sex marriage is legal in Massachusetts and California.

If approved, California’s Proposition 8 would overturn the California Supreme Court’s landmark May ruling that it is unconstitutional to prevent same-sex couples’ right to marry. Another effects of Prop. 8, that it threatens to take away important benefits like health insurance, eliminate protections for children, and complicate decision-making related to medical emergencies and other situations.

The “Burn After Reading” star said in a statement, “Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8″.

According to Los Angeles Times’ L.A. Now blog, Pitt’s contribution is the largest made to the cause so far by a major celebrity. quite surprising, isnt it? Pitt’s political and philanthropic adviser, Trevor Neilson told AP that Pitt was surprised that his colleagues in the entertainment industry had not donated more money to support the battle against Proposition 8.

Chad Griffin, a political strategist for the “No on 8″ campaign, added, “The entertainment industry should view this contribution as a challenge. It is our hope that others in the entertainment industry will step up and match Brad Pitt’s heroic commitment to equality and to defeating Prop. 8.This isn’t a special interest issue — this measure affects every business and every family. With California’s budget and the national economy in chaos, the last thing we need is an unnecessary measure that threatens health benefits and protections for children”.

As of today, the anti-Prop 8 side has raised more than $11.1 million, while supporters have forked over $16.6 million. Want to follow Brad Pitt’s generous act? Visit www.votenoonproposition8.com
